Obituary of Iva Mary Monk
Monk (Keating), Iva Mary- It is with great sadness that the family of Iva Mary (Keating) Monk announces her death at the Dartmouth General Hospital after a short illness on July 13, 2019 at the age of 90. Iva was born in Little Harbour, Halifax Co., on May 10, 1929, the tenth child and last surviving of the 13 children of Patrick and Amelia (McKay) Keating. Iva worked at short term jobs such as cooking in local restaurants but was happiest with her soulmate of 70 years, John. She enjoyed playing crib weekly, 45’s, supporting her church, visits from her girls, grandchildren, and welcomed visits from family and friends. Survived by daughters Bernadette Monk (her sons, Richard and Ryan McInnis) and Colleen Wilson (her children, Karen Howard and Alan Wilson); daughter-in-law, Joan Monk (children of Francis and Joan, Kimberley Shears and Mark Monk); and eight great-grandchildren. Predeceased by husband, John (2016); sons Francis (2000) and Pater (1962); daughters, Janice (1957) and Stephanie (1966); and infant granddaughter; son in law Harold Wilson; siblings Dena, Florence, Ida, Mildred, George, Douglas, Beatrice, Stella, Nellie, Cyril, Hubert, and Connie. Cremation has taken place, no visitation by request. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday July 19, 2019 at 11:00a.m. at St. Denis Catholic Church, East Ship Harbour, Father Fabian officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Reception to follow in St. Denis Church Hall. No flowers by request. Thanks to the staff of 4 West, Dartmouth General, for their kindness. My father the late Duncan S. Crowell purchased the business on August 31, 1970 from the late Parker Hamilton. Dad named it Eastern Memorial Funeral Home until a few years later when he changed the name to DS Crowell Funeral Home.
