Obituary of Joseph Alexander Currie
Our dad, Joseph Currie, passed away June 17, 2019 in Camp Hill Veterans' Memorial Building, QEII, 4 East at the age of 95. He was born February 24, 1924 in Marinette, to James Nicholas and Elizabeth (Stonely) Currie. Dad served in the Canadian Army from 1943 to 1946. He retired from the HMCS Dockyard after 34 years. He held different positions while there as a Rigger, Crane Signal Man etc. Dad expressed many times how he enjoyed fishing and hunting which was not for the game, but for the walk in the woods as this being his time. His most favourite pastime was playing Rummy 500 always hoping to land a flop. He married mom, Norma Woodworth on November 7, 1945. Dad was the last surviving member of his family. He is survived by his sons, Hugh (Cynthia D'Angelo) and Darrell (daughter-in-law Julie Anne); granddaughters, Angela Marie Currie and Carolyn Diane Currie, and their mother, Celeste Currie. He is also survived by sister-in-law, Ruth West and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; his wife, and all of his brothers, Neil, Philip, Charles, Vidus, Everette, Earl, and Dan. He was a very kind and loving man and he will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by family, friends, and all who knew him. Visitation will be held Saturday, June 22nd from 10 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. in D.S. Crowell & Son Funeral Home followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 1 p.m. in St. Peters Catholic Church, Sheet Harbour, Archbishop Martin Currie officiating.
