Obituary of Murray Roland Baker
Baker, Murray Roland- 86, passed away May 22, 2019 in St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish. Born July 18, 1932 in Wilsons Cove he was a son of the late Fred and Jean (Wilson) Baker. He was a hard working man, lobster fished for 72 years and in the off season he worked with the department of highways, and helped build the Liscomb River bridge, he also spent four winters working in Halifax. After that he spent summers fishing cod and haddock with his father and went longlining on the Gerald & Verine. He spent four summers working the Liscomb Lighthouse with his wife Mary and drove a pulp truck for MW Baker and other locals who needed drivers. In his free time Gramp liked morning and evening drives, mackerel fishing, playing crib, and crokinole with his wife and grandkids. He was a member of St. Lukes Anglican Church and rang the bell for many years. Murray is survived by his wife of 59 years Mary (Jordan), sons Rollie (Nancy), Liscomb, Wayne (Rachel), Liscomb, grandchildren; Brittany, Haley, Carson and Victoria Baker, John and Alana Langley, great grandchildren; Chayse and Brielle, brother in law Lawrence Wilson, Liscomb and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by twin brother at birth, brother Ralph Baker and sister Barb Wilson. Visitation will be held today from 7-9p.m. with a funeral service Saturday May 25 at 2p.m. all in St. Lukes Anglican Church, Liscomb Rev. Gary Sinclair officiating. Burial in the church cemetery. My father the late Duncan S. Crowell purchased the business on August 31, 1970 from the late Parker Hamilton. Dad named it Eastern Memorial Funeral Home until a few years later when he changed the name to DS Crowell Funeral Home.
