Obituary of Basil James Hilchie
Hilchie, Basil James- 63, Pleasant Harbour, passed away Monday February 25, 2019 in Dartmouth General Hospital. Born April 18, 1955 he was the son of Erma and grandson of the late Esson and Elva (Clattenburg) Hilchie. Basil was employed at J. Willy Krauch and Sons smoke house for the greater part of his working career and finally retired from Baker Point Fisheries. He enjoyed spending time with his many friends and ATV’ing. Basil was happiest when surrounded by family. He has been a member of the Tangier Fire Department and an active member of Living Water Baptist Church. Basil is survived by mother Erma Hilchie, brother Roger (Bev) Hilchie, nephew Darren (Michelle) Hilchie, niece Tracey (Jeff) Glawson and his great nieces and nephews Grace, Abby, Michael and Luke, along with beloved aunts and uncles. Visitation will be held Thursday February 28 from 6-8 p.m. with prayers at 7:30p.m. in DS Crowell & Son Funeral Home 22558 Highway 7 Sheet Harbour. Funeral service will be held Friday March 1st at 2:00p.m. in Living Water Baptist Church, Sheet Harbour Pastor Steve Brunt officiating. Burial in the Pleasant Harbour United Church Cemetery, reception to follow in the Tangier Fire Hall. Family flowers only, donations in Basil’s memory may be made to the Tangier Fire Department or Living Water Baptist Church.

My father the late Duncan S. Crowell purchased the business on August 31, 1970 from the late Parker Hamilton. Dad named it Eastern Memorial Funeral Home until a few years later when he changed the name to DS Crowell Funeral Home.
