Obituary of Harold William Claude Shiers
Age 76, of Moosehead, passed away suddenly January 7, 2019 in the Halifax Infirmary, QEII. Born in Halifax September 7, 1942 he was a son of the late Harold and Dorothy (Keizer) Shiers. Bill worked at Guy White's Mill in his earlier years then at Armature Works, Halifax, then worked at Parker Turners General Store, Moser River and ended his working years with David Jewers doing carpenter work. Dad had a great faith and was very supportive with the Baptist, and Anglican Catholic churches. He also was a clergy of the Universal Life Church. He was an avid reader and was very interested in geology, theology and he also enjoyed watching the weather channel. His hobby was being an avid amateur surveyor and would set up the survey equipment and survey the living room which would be a family laugh. He loved storytelling, and working in the wood pile showing the girls how to pile the wood properly. He was also very proud of his three girls. Survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Dorothy; daughters, Hope, Halifax; Faith (Dan) Allen, Dartmouth; Charity (Terry Logan), Sheet Harbour; 16 nieces and nephews and cousins, many great and great-great nieces and nephews. He will be missed by his dog Parrish. Predeceased by sister, Helen and brother-in-law, Jack Bergman; nephew, Ollie Bergman; sister-in-law, Janet Kolat; brother-in-law, Leeland Sanger; nieces, Marilyn Kolat and Beverly Briggs; his family will miss his presence immensely. Visitation Thursday, January 10th from 2-4 p.m. with funeral service Friday, January 11th at 11 a.m., all in Moser River Independent Baptist Church. Pastor Steven Snell officiating, with burial in Riverside Cemetery. Reception to follow in the church. Family flowers only, donation may be made to the Rainbow Foodbank or foodbank of your choice. My father the late Duncan S. Crowell purchased the business on August 31, 1970 from the late Parker Hamilton. Dad named it Eastern Memorial Funeral Home until a few years later when he changed the name to DS Crowell Funeral Home.
