Obituary of Josephine Farris

Josephine Farris, 91, peacefully passed away on October 15, 2024, at Eastern Shore Memorial Hospital in Sheet Harbour, NS, surrounded by her loving family. Born on October 2, 1933, in South Branch, NFLD, she was one of twelve children of the late Narcis and Julia Aucoin.
A resident of Port Dufferin for 60 years, Josephine was a courageous and resilient woman who dedicated her life to raising her twelve children. She and the love of her life, Johnny, cherished family gatherings, especially at their cottage in South Branch, where hosting reunions brought them immense joy. She also looked forward to her annual shopping trips with her daughters and granddaughters. In her earlier years, Josephine was a supporter of the Balcom Center, loved to bowl and spent her summers camping and traveling the Maritimes wherever Johnny was working. In her later years in Sheet Harbour, she loved to play bingo and cards and was an active member of the Lions Club.
Josephine was predeceased by her husband, Johnny; her daughter, Debbie; and her granddaughter, Natasha. She is survived by her children, Alan (Joy), Linda (Avard), Carolyn (Rick), Wanda (Brian), Florence (Peter), Ronnie (Karen), Jimmy (Brenda), Ricky (Sherry), Laurie (Viola), Sherry (Dean), and Tanya (Mark); Sisters Sally and Gertie (Robert); as well as 23 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great-grandchildren.
An open casket visitation will be held Wednesday October 16 from 7-9pm with a Lions Service at 7:30 in DS Crowell & Son Funeral Home 22558 Highway 7 Sheet Harbour. An additional visitation will be held Thursday October 17 from 12:00- 1:30 in DS Crowell & Son Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held Thursday October 17 at 3p.m. in St. James Anglican Church, Port Dufferin Rev. Debra Burleson officiating. A reception will follow at the SR Balcom Center, 25515 Highway 7, Port Dufferin.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Josephine's memory to Eastern Shore Memorial Hospital Palliative Care.
Josephine's legacy of love, tenacity and passion for life was an inspiration to all and will be deeply missed by those who knew her.

My father the late Duncan S. Crowell purchased the business on August 31, 1970 from the late Parker Hamilton. Dad named it Eastern Memorial Funeral Home until a few years later when he changed the name to DS Crowell Funeral Home.
