Sue, & the entire Henry Family,
We were so saddened to hear of your beloved Barry’s passing.
Even though we both knew Barry many years ago, I am mostly writing these memories from my husband, Brian McCarthy, who grew up with Barry in the Pubs.
Barry was a prominent fixture in the McCarthy household….. he also worked with Brian & his Dad, Don McCarthy at Seaboard GM Diesel.
Fondly remembering Barry driving Brian’s family to places in his green Ford Falcon, as they didn’t drive.
Thinking it was a 1968.
The fun they had… Remembering times spent with the entire McCarthy family when they went to spend a weekend at a family cottage that was lent to them - in West Jeddore.
Barry & Don staying up most of the night trying to spear a bear that was trying to get their fish that they had mistakenly tied outside the door to a piece of scaffolding! The McCarthys’ always tell this ridiculous funny story of those two practicing what they were going to do if they opened the door and the bear happened to be standing there !
They did open the door at one point during the night and it wasn’t a bear standing there by a Bobcat!
They both screamed!!!….threw the spear: locked the door, and told everybody to stay in bed! Lol
There are loads of stories …. One thing we can say for sure…
There are few people who you cross paths with in your life that only bring you joy, laughter and the love of true, solid friendship. . . . Barry Henry was that person to all the McCarthys’ and to everyone he met…. Family, friends, community.
He will be missed dearly.
We are heartbroken that we never got to meet up with Barry in the past years…. But you know how it goes… Life just gets in the way.
We share you sorrow in the loss of this genuine, great human being. A man many called his friend. A full & fun life, well lived and celebrated.
Take comfort in the fact that he is at peace, and it was as hard for him to go as it was for you all to see him go.
One of my favourite quotes:
“Grandpa always said that when we get to Heaven, all the cats & dogs & everyone who ever loved us, will be there waiting at the gate.”
We really like that.
May it comfort you to know that your Barry is in the company of friends & family .. ..
both old and new.
We like to think that he and Don McCarthy are sitting around laughing about trying to catch that bear.
Sending much Love and Deep Sympathy,
Judy & Brian McCarthy

I have 2 significant members. The first one is Barry, Sue, Brian and I were out for a boat ride. Hayley ended up in the lake. I was getting ready to jump out of boat. Hayley swam over to the side and Barry pulled her back in the boat.
The other one is Barry, Sue and I drove to Boston for 2 or 3 hockey games. Of course they were playing my HABS. Boston never won any of those games. Rest in Peace my friend . From a Habs fan....

Dear Sue and family. I agree with what Charlie says about you both raising two lovely sons who now have lovely children of their own. I feel really sad for everyone, especially the grandchildren who clearly loved their granddad. I've known Barry a lot of years but I only really got to know him on a deeper level on my last few visits home --when he empathized wholeheartedly with me when I shared some of my challenges with him. I saw yet another side of Barry when he told me what it was like for him to see Sue so sick only a decade ago and a few times potentially close to her own death. Barry was very kind to my father too, offering help where help was needed. On a lighter side, I enjoyed having a drink of Tequila with Barry and chatting about Rock & Roll trivia. You will be missed, Barry. Love Margie

First to Sue and family, our Deepest Condolences to you from Kim and I. We arrived in Sheet Harbour in June 1994 and not long after that we got to meet you both through the Scouting movement and the start a lifelong friendship. Over these past years we have shared many a times and created so many memories. Whether trips to Cape Breton, or the camps at Sugar Hill or Loon Loop to our times at either your place or ours enjoying times. As noted in his Obituary, Barry involved himself in the community if a number of organizations. I have never seen anyone with such a collection of hockey cards as Barry. As a young fellow collecting hockey cards was a passion but seeing his, not only took me back to those days but it was just unbelievable. I will remember Barry for his smile and jolly laughter, his jive dancing, his love for the Boston Bruins, but most of all seeing him sitting on the patio at Loon Loop cottage looking to the west in the evening and enjoying the sunsets. I think, especially in his later years when health was failing him, I can only imagine what was going through his mind. One thing for sure, being at peace and enjoying God's creation. We had many a talks whether over a coffee or refreshment or just sitting and enjoying life. Barry loved life, but most important his family and cherished his grandchildren. Rest in Peace my Friend, No More Pain, you were a true friend who we will miss dearly.. Til we meet again.

Sue (Due) and family. What an awesome pleasure it was to have met you and Barry a few years ago. We will always treasure our time filled with fun when you guys visited us in NL. All of our hearts have emptied over the past days but the memories he gave us over these few years will indeed help ease that emptiness. The Boston Bruins have to try to win now without their biggest fan
Our sincere condolences to you and your entire family. Rest in peace your gentle soul.
