Day, Ruth Margaret- 83 Popes Harbour/Sheet Harbour died Monday September 18, 2023 in Harbourview Lodge. Born in Sheet Harbour May 28, 1940 she was a daughter of the late Sherman & Margaret (Logan) Helpard. Ruth was a stay-at-home Mom and devoted her life to her four children. She was a great cook and made the best homemade bread. Ruth worked at the local bakery for a few months, before returning home to help with her husbands’ ill health. She loved to read and listen to Stompin Tom Music, and was always interested in her grandchildren’s lives. She is survived by children; Paulette (Russell) McInnis, Eastern Passage, Kim (Robert) Rutledge, Loon Loop, Pam Fraser, Sheet Harbour, Larry (Cherie), Cole Harbour, stepson Brendon Doyle (Haley), Enfield, 7 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, sister Joan Boutilier, Sheet Harbour. Predeceased by husband Paul, brothers; Clarence, Douglas, George, Carl, Eddie, sister Theresa Boutilier, son in law Carl Fraser. Mass of Christian burial will be held Thursday September 21 at 11am in St. Peters RC Church, Sheet Harbour Father Vincent officiating. Reception to follow at the Sheet Harbour Legion. A private family committal will be at St. Martins Cemetery following the reception. The family would like to thank Dr. Don MacDonald for his care, and also the staff of Eastern Shore Memorial Hospital and Harbourview Lodge for their care and compassion shown to Ruth and her family.

My father the late Duncan S. Crowell purchased the business on August 31, 1970 from the late Parker Hamilton. Dad named it Eastern Memorial Funeral Home until a few years later when he changed the name to DS Crowell Funeral Home.
