Obituary of Frank Albert Cowie
Please share a memory of Frank to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
COWIE, Frank Albert - Sober Island, (formerly of Lower Sackville), Nova Scotia, born on April 16, 1949. Frank passed away at 9:27 PM on September 27, 2022, with his wife and three children comforting him.
The last 24 hours of Frank’s life saw an outpouring of love that filled his hospital room. By his side were his wife of 53 years, Dianne, his daughters, Lori and Michelle, son, Michael, his brother and best friend, Eddy, and his brother-in-law, David.
Each of his grandchildren, Zachary, Brendan, Rachel, and his namesake, Franklin, all held a special place in Frank’s heart, and each of them had a chance to say goodbye.
Frank was a loyal and dedicated husband. He met Dianne for their first date in the spring of ‘65. It was a date at a drive-in movie, and it was true love ever since.
He was a proud and supportive father, who loved spending time with his children, Lori, Michelle and Michael.
Frank was a devoted Poppy to his four grandchildren, who he enjoyed fishing with and cheering on at their games. He loved watching his grandsons, Zach and Brendan, play hockey and he enjoyed going to see Franklin and Rachel play baseball. He bonded with Franklin while watching the Jays and always mentioned how they needed to hit better.
The best father, poppy, brother and friend. He was a kind, gentle soul whose love ran deep. You could always count on him for a sweet hello and a warm hug. Those hugs will be missed.
In addition to the family members above, Frank is survived by his sons-in-law Kelly Purdy, Trevor Munroe and Tyler Schulz, his wonderful brother Alex Cowie and sisters-in-law, Dolly and Patsy, and many nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his wonderful sister-in-law, Sandra, known to many as the tea lady, father and mother-in-law, David and Edna Avery, his parents, Alexander and Mary, brothers, Alfie Cowie and James MacDonald, and sister-in-law, Rowena MacDonald.
Frank’s celebration of life will be held at 1 PM on Saturday, October 8th at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church in Timberlea, located at 2553 St. Margaret's Bay Road.
Much gratitude to the staff at Aberdeen Hospital (4th floor) in New Glasgow – the amazing nurses (Lisa, Jackie, and nursing student Grace to name a few) and a special thank you to the caring and compassionate Dr. Aulayne Jeans-Mingo.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Canadian Cancer Society in Frank’s name.
