Obituary of Kimberley Anne Smith
Please share a memory of Kimberley to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Age 46, of Sheet Harbour, passed away June 19th, 2022 at Aberdeen Hospital after struggling for many years through chronic illness and pain. Kim was an award-winning nail technician, a loving aunt and a loyal friend. She is survived by her mother, Beverley (Cleveland) Smith; sister Kelley (Robert) Mason, Middleboro, MA; brother Kent Smith (Kelly Brennan), Porters Lake; nephews Ryan & Gregory Mason, niece Maia Smith, and step-nephews Alec and Beckett Brennan. Also surviving are aunts Beverly Smith and Judy Cleveland; uncle Peter Cleveland; cousins Nadine Smith (Jason, Matthew & Hailee), Michelle Harrington (Kyle & Emma), Jocelyn Jackson (Steve & Owen), Matthew Cleveland (Chelsea) & Adam Cleveland; great aunt Eula Raymond. Kim is predeceased by her father, Brian; uncles Blois & Milton Smith; grandparents Victor & Vera Smith and Harry & Audrey Cleveland; Floris Scott (“Sho”); as well as her cherished mini dachshund, Maggie, often referred to as “MagPie”, who was Kimmie’s best friend for 14 years.
Upon graduation from Duncan MacMillan High School, Kim attended Acadia University for two years before deciding it was not for her. She subsequently enrolled in the School of Cosmetology and found her true calling as an esthetician. She excelled in her work and won several awards at the provincial & Atlantic levels, and was also a finalist in a national competition. She became a Master Esthetician and operated Kim’s Bodyworks in Lakeside for many years. The shop took on Kimmie’s warm & welcoming personality, and clients quickly became friends. You not only left her shop with the best manicure/pedicure you ever had, but often with a tray of treats as well! Her proficiency in gel nails and her passion for the profession led her to teaching esthetics here in Nova Scotia, as well as in Albany, NY. She was delighted with her student’s success, and took pride in the role she played in the industry.
Kim was outgoing & caring, and easily made friends wherever she lived or worked. She loved people and they loved her. She excelled at sports and played volleyball, soccer and track & field, but her passion was softball and she played at a high level for many years until it became too physically challenging. When she couldn’t play anymore, she could often be seen & heard at the Rocket’s Field as the loudest cheerleader in the stands! Kimmie was also a prolific baker, and would regularly whip up dozens of delicious cookies or muffins. She was very generous, and often shared her treats with friends, family & her healthcare providers.
Kim was happiest when she was surrounded by family and friends. She was the fun aunt, always spoiling Ryan, Greg and Maia with candy and other goodies. She adored them as if they were her own. Kim was a loyal friend. She was kind and generous, and always helped others if she could, even if she was not feeling her best.
The last few years of Kim’s life were not easy. She had numerous ailments and spent a great deal of time in hospital. While we are devastated she is gone, we take comfort knowing she is no longer suffering and is at peace. We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the countless healthcare providers who played a role in Kimmie’s care over the years. Everyone from Homecare, EHS & RNs, to the Doctors & Specialists who treated her, thank you all.
