As his cousin, I loved meeting him every summer when I went "Downhome" to be with family. Even though I live away and can not visit as frequently as I would like, I think of Jansen and my uncles, aunts, and cousins frequently. I am proud to call Janson my family.

Jansen holds a special place in my heart. I worked with him for several years at Connection Halifax. Many hours were spent talking about music, and finding the best songs to add to his MP3 player. He was able to recount entire plots of the movies he’d seen with storytelling skills that got everyone listening. What I loved about Jansen was his ability to express joy over small successes, and I looked forward to catching up with him in random places (often on public transit) to hear about what he was proud of accomplishing, the people who were important to him, and the treasures he found while on recycling missions. He had a huge heart, and cared deeply for his family, friends, and supportive people in his life. He had many struggles, but he was funny, kind, resourceful, and thoughtful even when life was tough. I’ll miss hearing him greet me with his usual “hey girl” whenever we met. I’ll miss Jansen, and am glad that I was able to know him.
Deepest condolences to Jansen’s family, and to all the people who cared about him.

I knew Jansen from my time working at The Salvation Army. He had such a good heart in him and was a genuinely kind person.
He still would stop me on the street and ask when I was going to propose to that great woman of mine and always, always, had a quick joke that would make himself laugh.
Jansen was a much better man than most got to know and he will be missed by many people.
Rest In Peace Jansen, you deserve it.
