Obituary of Ruth Marion Murphy
Murphy, Ruth Marion- 85, Sheet Harbour passed away peacefully Wednesday March 28, 2018 in Harbourview Lodge, Sheet Harbour. Born in Spry Bay October 22, 1932 she was a daughter of the late Everett and Rita (Connors) Walsh. In her earlier years she was employed as a telephone operator in Sheet Harbour. She married Doug in 1952 and was a stay at home mother raising her 10 children. Past President of the Sheet Harbour Legion Ladies Auxiliary and past volunteer at Adult Day Clinic, Eastern Shore Memorial Hospital. Mom enjoyed watching sports especially baseball and curling. She was a faithful spectator at the Rockets Ballfield watching her grandchildren and especially the Womens Softball League. Mom enjoyed country music especially Alan Jackson and Charlie Pride. She was known as Nanny Ruth to many in the community. She gave great hugs and kisses and will be remembered for her beautiful smile. Survived by children; Rita (Mike) Weagle, Patti (Ron) Chisholm, Dougie, Gaye (Artie) Crowell, Susan (Bruce) Crowell, Joey (Colleen), Ivy, Trevor (Sandra), Erin (Michael) Butler, Cory (Natalie). Grandchildren; Nadine (Don), Craig (Leanne), Brad (RandiLynn), Katie (Steve), Zachary, Julie (Gregg), Christopher, Tia (Justin), Elicia, Patrice (Jason), Amanda, Meggie (Alicia), Luke (Kirstin), Emily (Jordan), Carly, Jackson. Great grandchildren; Jacqueline, Brittany, Tieryn, Harrison, Levi, Tayvie, Wyatt, Jayde, Charlee, Mason, Lila, Kiera, Kyle, Kacey and Lincoln; brother Ivan (Myrna); many nieces and nephews, and the ones she referred to as her “other family “the Morrisons in PEI. Predeceased by husband Doug, grandson Justin Crowell; sisters, Helen Rhyno, Myrtle Taylor, and Esther in infancy. Brothers Reginald, James and Donald. Visitation will be held Sunday, April 1 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm in D.S. Crowell & Son Funeral Home, 22558 Highway 7, Sheet Harbour. Mass of Christian Burial will be 2 pm Monday, in St. Peters Roman Catholic Church, Sheet Harbour, Farther Keith Billard officiating. Burial to follow in the church cemetery. Reception to follow in Sheet Harbour Legion .Family flowers only. Donations in Mom’s memory may be made to St. Peter’s Parish, Sheet Harbour or a charity of choice. A heartfelt thank you to all the staff of Harbourview Lodge and Dr. MacDonald for their love and care over the years.

My father the late Duncan S. Crowell purchased the business on August 31, 1970 from the late Parker Hamilton. Dad named it Eastern Memorial Funeral Home until a few years later when he changed the name to DS Crowell Funeral Home.
