Obituary of Gerald Lawrence Webb
Webb, Gerald Lawrence- 85 Tangier, It is with broken hearts we announce the sudden passing of our beloved husband and father Gerald Lawrence Webb age 85, on March 18, 2018 at Eastern Shore Memorial Hospital, Sheet Harbour. Born on June 29, 1932 in Pleasant Harbour N.S. he was the second oldest son of the late Hugh and Mae (Beaver) Webb. Gerald left Pleasant Harbour at the young age of 14 with his oldest brother George and they sailed together on the S.S. Laketon and G.M. Carl on the Great Lakes. Gerald started his career shoveling coal where he and his pickaxe weighed the same. With sheer determination, thirst of knowledge and coupled with his strong work ethic, Gerald worked up the ranks to Chief Engineer. In the late 1950’s Gerald joined the Lord Calvin which laid transatlantic cable from North America to Europe. In 1962 he joined the Nova Scotia Light and Power which later became the Nova Scotia Power Corporation, retiring in 1992. Gerald was a member of Holy Trinity Anglican Church and belonged to many organizations throughout his life. Left to mourn is his wife of 59 years Joyce (May), Tangier; daughter Jean (Scott Clarke), Hammonds Plains; step-granddaughter Nicole (Matt Gallop); and great-grandchildren Maddison and Alexander. Also left to mourn is his family whom he loved so much, brother Ray (Rita), Pleasant Harbour; sisters, Elaine (Duncan) Mason, Cole Harbour; Patricia Boutilier, Dartmouth; Stella (Phillip) Boutilier, Mushaboom; Cecelia (Louis) Boutilier, Pleasant Harbour; sister- in-law Helen, Eastern Passage; and many nieces and nephews. Gerald was predeceased by son Gerald Phillip in infancy; brothers, George and wife Gelda, Frank, Percy, Peter in infancy and sister Etta and Earl Borgal. Visitation will be held Wednesday March 21 from 7-9 p.m. and Thursday March 22 from 2-4 and 7-9p.m. with prayers at 7:30 all in Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Tangier. Funeral service Friday March 23 at 11:00 a.m. in Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Tangier Rev. Lorraine Otto officiating. Reception to follow at the Tangier Fire Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Missions to Seafarers, 844 Marginal Road Halifax B3H 4M8. With a curl in his hair, a big smile, hearty hug, and a personality to light up a room, Gerald’s kindness, compassion, and humour touched the hearts of many. Gone but forever loved.

My father the late Duncan S. Crowell purchased the business on August 31, 1970 from the late Parker Hamilton. Dad named it Eastern Memorial Funeral Home until a few years later when he changed the name to DS Crowell Funeral Home.
