Obituary of Amelia Jane Edwards

Please share a memory of Amelia to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Amelia Edwards, age 91 of Pleasant Harbour passed away peacefully on September 23,2020 at the Birches Nursing home in Musquodoboit Harbour. Born near Sunnyside Newfoundland she was the daughter of Albert and Kate Drover. She is predeceased by her husband Charles and siblings Joyce, Robert, Grace and Marmaduke. She is survived by her children, Andrew Townsend (Andrea), Ramona Coolen (Scott McKay) and Billie Myers (Leon) and siblings Amy Graves and Rennie Drover (Jean), grandchildren Zachary, Lillie, Charlie, Phil and Jeff, great grandchildren, Henry, Gabe and Emma. Amelia has lived a long full life and has touched the lives of many people. “She was a colourful, interesting lady, a fantastic Aunt” Heather , “she loved to laugh” Janice, “ she is in a better place picking berries and swilling a drink with the sun beaming down on her” Yvonne, “ I have always admired your mom’s strength. She is an amazing lady” Bonnie. Although Amelia was not able to conceive children of her own together with husband Roy Townsend they proceeded to adopt two children as newborns and welcomed them into their home and family. She would often say this quote: “ Not flesh of my flesh nor bone of my bone, but miraculously my own. Never forget for a single minute you don’t grow under my heart but in it” She was very active in the community and especially proud of her involvement in the Four Harbours Legion and Saint Peters Anglican Church. She loved to entertain family and friends, meet new people and travel, especially exploring her home province of Newfoundland. Amelia had an amazing sense of humour and loved a bit of fun. She stayed true to herself and would not hesitate to express her opinion even if it was not popular. She was hard working, stubborn and had a propensity to care for others. Her many nieces and nephews, brothers and sisters in law, neighbors and friends will dearly miss her. They would all say that if you have ever stopped in to visit you would never leave with an empty stomach. We all have many great memories of times we have had with her picking berries , digging clams, performing in community plays, weekends in Allendale, times on McNab’s Island, walking the trail to Centre Hill, weekends at the cabin on Newcombes Lake, sing a longs, staying at the camp ToGo, dressing up at Halloween, Legion Conventions, the Argo, Propper Ting, Townsend Family Reunions, Holiday Gatherings, trips to Newfoundland and the Magdalen Islands, beachcombing, summers in Shediac … just to name a few. A small outdoor service will be held for family, friends and neighbors to celebrate her life and share our personal memories. Donations can be made in memory of Amelia to Saint Peter’s Anglican Church, Murphy’s Cove, Royal Canadian Legion Branch 120 Four Harbours or The Birches Nursing Home, Musquodoboit Harbour. A special Thank you to all the staff at the Birches Nursing Home who took such great care of our mother during her 2 ½ years stay. They are truly special people who do this work and treat our loved ones like they are their own.
