Dear Darlene and Family:
It is with a heavy heart that I say 'good-bye to my old friend Herb, whom I first met through work as an appraiser with Herb as a mortgage broker, first with Credit Foncier, and then with Dufferin, and later with you both at the Maple Leaf Fishing Lodge, in Blackville, where we all shared good food and conversation, and lots of laughs, not to mention the joys of being 'beyond a telephone', on the beautiful Southwest Miramichi River, in one of Herb's home made boats.
I will miss his sound advice, his quick mind, wry grin, and eternal optimism. He was a great guy to be around.
Affectionately, and with my sincere sympathy,
Harrison Goodwin

My condolences on the passing of your husband and dad. Admired Herb for his ability and desire to do every job well to the best of his ability which surpassed what most of us could achieve. He was good at many things but found his real challenge and excitement in the financial sector. Like his dad he had an amazing ability and with the character of his mom he impressed all and showed that formal schooling is not the only asset that leads to success. Know you have many fond memories to console you through the coming years and wish the best for you all and your children.
Kindest regards, Bob

Dear Aunt Darlene, Jason, Aaron, and Craig,
Since the moment I heard about Uncle “Herbie” passing, I have not stopped thinking about you all. I have been on this page several times trying to write the perfect words but I know all I can really say is “I’m sorry.” I realize there are no words that can take away your pain but I want you to know there are many of us who share it with you.
As a boy visiting Nova Scotia in the summer - a visit with the Whitman’s was always highly anticipated ... we always wished we had more time. I remember my uncle as confident and someone who commanded attention, all the while making everyone around him feel at ease. “Uncle Herbie”, as we knew him, told stories that were captivating and he made us all laugh ... my parents would laugh ... I remember this clearly. He was fun to be around. And ... this was through the eyes of a child who witnessed his character only from the sidelines. I was happy then to have had a more recent visit when Uncle Herb and Aunt Darlene were down here in Orlando. It was nice to get to know him a little more as an adult.
I remember it fondly.
I will always remember my Uncle Herbie with the greatest respect and I am proud to have him as part of my family. He will not be forgotten.
Margot and I, and Grace, Gabriella, and Scarlett, are thinking of you and praying for you and for Uncle Herb. Many hugs...
Love and God Bless,
Tim Mason

Our hearts, great hurt, and wonderful memories are full of life experiences we enjoyed with Herb and family over the years, especially those days we spent in Nova Scotia. Herb’s declining health in later years did not hold them back from the busyness of life. He had excellent support from Darlene who laughingly enjoyed his stories along with the rest of us. We will miss him so much. Our love, sympathy, prayers, and warmest thoughts are there with Darlene, and Jasen, Aaron and Craig and their beautiful families.
