Obituary of Joan Velma Kennedy

Age 87 years of Pleasant Harbour, died peacefully Sunday, June 7, 2020 at home. Born August 29, 1932 in East Ship Harbour, she was the oldest daughter of the late Hugh and Lorna (Monk) Beaver. She was a member of Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Tangier and previously of St. Helen's Anglican Church, Surrey, B.C., and St. Peter's Anglican Church, Murphy Cove. She served faithfully in all three churches in many capacities. In her later life (at the age of 72) she became an Associate of the Sisterhood of Saint John the Divine. She was a loving wife, mother, Baba, sister and friend. She is survived by her sons, Staff (Sheila), Dyson (Beth), Trevor(Denise), Noell (Lil); and daughters, Valinda (Jerry), Lauralee, Petrea (Terry), Letti (Mike); 15 grandchildren, 18 great-granchildren; one brother, one sister, one half-brother, one half-sister; one stepbrother, two stepsisters; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Dale; sons, Montia Van Dale and Derron Gibson; two brothers; and a stepmother. Remains are resting in Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Tangier. Immediate family only for visitation and the funeral service, following COVID-19 guidelines. Burial to follow in the church cemetery. Family flowers only. My father the late Duncan S. Crowell purchased the business on August 31, 1970 from the late Parker Hamilton. Dad named it Eastern Memorial Funeral Home until a few years later when he changed the name to DS Crowell Funeral Home.
