Please share a memory of Helen to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Age 92 of Truro and formerly of Sheet Harbour Passage, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 29, 2020 in Cedarstone Enhanced Care, Truro. Born February 3, 1927 in Sheet Harbour Passage, she was a daughter of the late Gordon and Bessie (Helpard) Spears. Helen enjoyed being a stay-at- home mom caring for the family that she loved so dearly. The meals she served were always tasty and included scrumptious desserts. Helen and her husband, Russell, spent many weekends at Scotia Pine Campground where they formed many lasting friendships with fellow campers. Helen's pride and joy was her granddaughter, Katrina. She was very proud to be present at the hospital the day her great-grandson Russell was born. Helen enjoyed singing and playing her guitar. She began singing in the church choir at St. Margaret's Anglican Church as a teenager. She continued to sing during her time at Cedarstone with the staff joining in on a favourite. "You Are My Sunshine" at lunchtime in the dining room. Helen is survived by her daughter, Darlene (John) Gault, Truro and Sheet Harbour; granddaughter, Katrina (Bruce) MacNutt, and their son Russell, Earltown. Also survived by brother, Gordon Spears; and sister, Bessie (Calvin) Baker. She was predeceased by her husband, Russell (2014), and their son Kevin (1982); brothers, Harold, Howard, Arnold, Basil, Herman, Douglas, Dunlop, Laurie; sisters, Edith, Hazel, Nora and Julie, and one sister in infancy. Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Sunday, February 2nd in D. S. Crowell and Son Funeral Home, 22558 Main St., Sheet Harbour with Funeral at 2 p.m. Monday, February 3rd in St. Margaret's Anglican Church, Sober Island, Rev. Gary Barr officiating.
