Obituary of Graham Milton Cooper

Age 83, of Tangier, passed away peacefully Wednesday, January 8, 2020 with his daughter, Wanda by his side. Born in Tangier, on August 8, 1936, he was the son of the late Albert and Jean (Mason) Cooper. He was a resident of Harbourview Lodge for the past several years. Grandad was employed by the Department of Transportation before joining his father aboard his lobster fishing boat. He eventually hung up his fishing gear and directed his attention to founding the Tangier & Area Volunteer Fire Department in 1980, where he served as fire chief from 1983 until 1991. His favourite pastimes included playing cards (normally at a local card party) and attending bingo, where he tended to take home winnings on more than one occasion. He is survived by children, Graham (Leann), Wanda, Cheryl, and Rueben (Karen); grandchildren, Cory (Vanessa), Travis, Chelsea (Brian), Roxanne, Cheyanne and Albert; 5 great-grandchildren; brothers, Parker (Theresa) and Dale (Heather); sister, Glenda (Doug); several nieces and nephews; and his God child, April, who meant a great deal to him. He was predeceased by his wife of 44 years, Julie; sister, Rose; brothers-in-law Frank and John; and sister-in-law, Glenda. Visitation will be held Friday January 10 from 7-9p.m. in DS Crowell & Son Funeral Home 22558 Highway 7 Sheet Harbour. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday January 11 at 11:00a.m. in St. Peters Roman Catholic Church, Sheet Harbour, Father Fabian officiating, with burial in St. Martins Cemetery, Tangier. Following the burial a reception will be held at the Tangier Fire Hall. For anyone attending the funeral home visitation, the funeral service or the reception please refrain from any type of scents due to a severe allergy. Special thanks to the staff at Harbourview Lodge, Dr. MacDonald, Bruce & Elicia Crowell, and Darrin Hutt of the fire department. Please, family flowers only. My father the late Duncan S. Crowell purchased the business on August 31, 1970 from the late Parker Hamilton. Dad named it Eastern Memorial Funeral Home until a few years later when he changed the name to DS Crowell Funeral Home.
