MARTIN, Jean Rosella – 83, Watt Section, passed away peacefully December 22, 2019 in Eastern Shore Memorial Hospital with her daughter by her side. Born April 3, 1936 in Port Dufferin Mines she was a daughter of the late William and Mary (McLellan) Barkhouse. In her younger years, Jean was employed by Kentville Hospital in the x-ray department and later in life worked at Duncan MacMillan Nursing Home as a personal care worker for ten years. She was a member of the Ladies Legion Auxiliary and St. Andrews Anglican Church. Jean enjoyed bingo, dancing, travelling, and shopping. She also enjoyed spending time with her sisters and grandchildren. Survived by her daughter Cheryl (Shawn) Ackert, Watt Section, son Wade (Evelyn) Martin, Port Dufferin, grandchildren Hilary and Nicole Ackert, Kyle and Kelsey Martin, brother Norman (Sally) Barkhouse, Port Dufferin Mines, sister Carmie Fleet, Dartmouth, and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her husband Laurie Martin; brothers, Winslow, Basil, Thomas and George; sisters, Freda, Lila, Edith, Sadie, Alice, Nina and Helen. Visitation will be held Friday, December 27 from 7-9 p.m. with prayers at 7:30 p.m. in DS Crowell & Son Funeral Home 22558 Highway 7, Sheet Harbour. A Funeral service will be held Saturday, December 28 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Andrews Anglican Church, Watt Section Rev. Lorraine Otto officiating. Burial in the church cemetery. Reception to follow at the Sheet Harbour Legion. Family flowers only. Donations in memory of Jean may be made to St. Andrews Anglican Church or a charity of your choice. My father the late Duncan S. Crowell purchased the business on August 31, 1970 from the late Parker Hamilton. Dad named it Eastern Memorial Funeral Home until a few years later when he changed the name to DS Crowell Funeral Home.
