Obituary of Gladys Genetta Mason
Age 102, of Tangier, passed away Saturday, August 24, 2019 in The Birches Nursing Home, Musquodoboit Harbour. Born in Popes Harbour August 2, 1917, she was a daughter of the late Angus and Etta (Gault) Hilchie. Gladys was a lifelong member of Holy Trinity Church, Tangier and ACW. She worked as a telephone operator in Tangier for many years, and was assistant post master and a mother to 10 children. Gladys was an avid flower gardener, enjoyed knitting hats and mitts, quilting, and sewing. She was also a great cook and baker. Later in her life she enjoyed bowling with her husband. Survived by daughters, Judith Lisson, Lower Sackville; Heather (Clare) Miller, Darlings Island, N.B.; Patricia (Colin) Top shee, Dartmouth; Nancy (Henry) Kurbel, Nanaimo, B.C.; daughter-in-law, Diane, Lake Echo; sons, Stephen, Vancouver; Stuart (Vianne), Regina; Stanley (Mary), Dartmouth; Stacy (Marlene), Musquodoboit Harbour; Chris (Monica), Belham; 25 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; sister, Jean McNabb, Hamilton, Ont. Predeceased by husband, Lionel; sons, Lionel and John David in infancy; brothers, Jim, John, Ralph and Avery; sisters, Elaine, Tina and Henrietta; son-in-law, Russell Lisson. Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 28th from 7-9 p.m. with prayers at 8 p.m. in D.S. Crowell & Son Funeral Home, 22558 Highway 7, Sheet Harbour. Funeral Service will be held Thursday, August 29th at 2 p.m. in Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Tangier; Rev. Lorraine Otto officiating. Burial in the church cemetery. Reception to follow in Tangier Fire Hall. Family flowers only, donations may be made to The Birches Nursing Home or charity of choice. My father the late Duncan S. Crowell purchased the business on August 31, 1970 from the late Parker Hamilton. Dad named it Eastern Memorial Funeral Home until a few years later when he changed the name to DS Crowell Funeral Home.
